About Carver
Carver is an American audio equipment based company. It was founded by Robert W. Bob Carver. The company is based in the Pacific Northwest. He graduated as a physicist and an engineer. But at a very young age he was more interested in the audio equipment. Since the 1970s his interest was applied practically and he invented high fidelity designs. At 350 W per channel he designed the Phase Linear 700. This is considered to be one of the most powerful audio amplifiers available. Later he initiated the Carver Corporation in 1979, Sunfire in 1994, and the Bob Carver LLC in 2011.
In the mid-1980s Carver caused a stir with two magazines. The magazine organisation accepted the challenge which was that he’d duplicate its sound and much more powerful if he was given any audio amplifier at any rate. He proved and copied the sound and transferred the modified function and sold the amplifier which was named as M1.5t, where the letter “t” stands for transfer function modified. Likewise in 1985 Stereophile magazine also challenged to copy a Conrad-Johnson Premier Five amplifier. He was asked to copy the sound within 48 hours. Carver successfully copied the sound and won the challenge. Due to this he got many critics and many didn’t understand the challenge. Carver wanted to prove that one can duplicate an audio amplifier sound. But then he went ahead of the critic and designed the Silver Seven which is the most expensive amplifier of that time and showed that he can duplicate the sound. The amplifier was later sold for about $600-$1500.
He then departure from the M-series amplifier and moved on to the more strong pushing TFM series amplifiers. 100 amplifiers were made approximately. To initiate the challenging load of the Amazing ribbon loudspeakers the TFM amplifiers were specifically designed. Carver is one of the five most significant people in the history of audio industry. Bob started Sunfire in the 1990′s which became a big success. To stay competitive he had to sell it to the company Nortek. Now Nortek retains the brand Carver and services the products.
